The ryad-fes (riad fes)

From the moment of arrival in the medina of Fez, a thousand-year old city and world heritage venue, this mysterious atmosphere strikes the visitor.  The façades are solid, dotted by tiny windows and it is only by entering into the monuments or residences that one is fascinated by so much beauty and splendor.

The architect who purchased the riad restored this residence in the great tradition of Fassi heritage.  There is nothing ostentatious in this building, all the spaces and volumes remain unchanged and all modern comforts discreetly integrated.

A genuine worksite where it was necessary to redo the entire electrical system, plumbing, bathrooms, central heating and air conditioning, and revamp the kitchen.  Not to forget the walls with their ceramic times and chiseled plasterwork, plus the cedar wood doors and windows to recapture their former glory.

The result of this work, carried out with so much love and detail, is an architectural jewel worthy of the original craftsmen who built this riad.

Once through the main door, one comes upon a patio with a floor covered in Carrara marble and ceramic tiles, high walls also covered with ceramic tiles and chiseled plasterwork; monumental cedar wood doors with floral designs opening onto the living room, dining room and one bedroom.

This patio, with its upper part covered in painted cedar wood "zouac" and glass canopy, is the true heart of the house.

The furnishings are just as refined as the architecture with old Berber carpets, sofa placed on carved cedar wood benches with back and armrests, covered with Kashmir printed velvet, hushed lighting by finely chiseled lighting fixtures and lamp shades.

The Moroccan living room is also provided with sofas placed on carved cedar wood benches covered with divans flax cloth with calligraphies.  The dining room is ready to be used and leads directly onto the pergola and garden where you can revel in the fragrance of jasmine, roses, verbena or lavender to the background of water gently trickling in a fountain.

After the restoration work on the walls and ceilings entirely of cedar wood and zouac, on the upper floor each of the rooms testifies to the feminine touch afforded to the decoration: silk Shantung curtains, bedspreads of embroidered flax with arabesques, or crushed velvet either plain or with Persian print, and embroidered flax in attractive colors.

This private dwelling is an invitation to enjoy a world characterized by refinement and harmony.
